Tai Chi, as it is practiced in the west today, can perhaps best be thought of as a moving
form of yoga and meditation combined. Many of the movements were originally derived from
the martial arts and from the natural movements of birds and animals. Tai Chi is performed
slowly, softly and gracefully with smooth and even transitions between the movements. The
practice of Tai Chi promotes a physically active way to respond to stress.
